Facebook Will Launch Subscribe Plug-In For Websites

Facebook will extend its subscribe feature across the Internet with the launch of a plug-in for all websites.
Facebook Europe, Middle East, and Africa Vice President and Managing Director Joanna Shields said at LeWeb ’11 in Paris that visitors to any website that installed the plugin could send updates into the news feeds of site visitors who click the subscribe button, TechCrunch reported.
Shields was not specific about when the subscribe plug-in would launch.
TechCrunch calls the subscribe plug-in is a direct challenge to Twitter’s “Follow” button, but the downside of it is something page administrators might already be familiar with: the risk of bombarding the news feeds of subscribers, who might unsubscribe if the feel overwhelmed.
